ARES Temple Ground Breaking Assistance Form
LDS Temple ground breaking July 31st. We as Amateur Radio Operators have been requested to assist the City during this time. Plans are in work and everything is to be in ready 2 weeks before the ground breaking, Jim Buchanan said. I have not yet received any specific information as to how many Communicators will be needed and where we will need to set up. We were told there is expected to be between 25 and 30 thousand people and the ground breaking will take 60 to 90 minutes. There will be only 2000 chairs set up and everyone else will have to stand. There will also be TV coverage by the major networks. Main Street will be closed from 100 South to 300 South. The East and West Streets will also be closed around the new Temple block. We were not told where parking will be but there will be buses running to transport visitors. I am guessing we will be asked to set up communications at at the parking areas but as I said I have not been told the specifics yet. I will be making announcements on the weekly Nets for the next few weeks and asking for volunteers. This will be a great chance for us to help the City and Church and learn more about communications. We can also look forward to the dedication and possibly the open house. Filling out this Form will put you on the list of Volunteers We will contact to help out Preference will be given to Local hams followed by order received Thanks for your support as communicators in our area.
