Mr. Woods,Thank you for expressing your concerns on HB95. Let me explain somemis-conceptions you might have regarding the intent of the bill. Yourmajor concern was the use of CB or HAM communication in vehicles. Myintent was not to limit those uses and in fact I have drafted anamendment to the bill, which will be presented in committee, thatwould take the words "two-way radio" out of the bill. my intent withthat language was to limit the use of the technology of wirelessNextel voice to voice devices but I later realized the words "two-wayradio" would also limit the use of the trucker, CB and HAM operations,which was not my intent.Banning the use of cell phones and texting while driving contstitutesan issue of protecting the public health and safety.Thank you for writing with your concerns and I hope the changes I'vemade to the bill would gain your support.SincerelyRep. calendar for time location and map. You bring a main coarse plates and

Jamborall Communications Support at the Golden Spike Arena, Ogden Friday May 18th, 2007
What is needed: There will be a need on Friday for 18-25 people for communications support from 3 pm to 9 pm. They will use as many as we can send and fill in from other areas where needed.
Where to checkin: There will be a Mobile Command post at one of the Terraces. Check in there upon arrival.
Radio Frequencies: 146.90 repeater, pl tone of 123.0 and simplex 145.67.
Please set your radio to access the repeater before the event.
The repeater will be monitored. Use this if you need directions to the command post as you are nearing the fairgrounds.
When to be there: Several people will be needed at 3 pm. The rest as soon as you can arrive. Deloss, Brad, Sandra, Boyd, Doris and Mary have currently offered to be there early. Troop checkins begin at 4 pm with most between 5 and 6 pm.
What to bring:HT with enough battery for up to 6 hours.
Notepad, pencil.
Water, other fluids, food
Hat, chair, sunscreen.
Flashlight
It may be hot if there is blacktop where you are. You will need to be self-sufficient for the time you are volunteering.

An Opertunity to help the Boy Scouts this Spring
On May 18-19th, at the Weber County Fair Grounds, the Trapper Trails Council of the Boy Scouts will be holding a Centenial Jamborall. This is a camping and exhibot event. We as a council expect a very large group of scouts and scouters of all ages.
We need help to communicate and pass information assisted by Hams. The council jamborall chairman is Ray Page from Ogden I think. He has asked to get help and volunteers to help over the two day event.
Will you please post on the UBET web site the info. If you go to Trapper trails.org the info is on the web site for the council.
There will be a need for command post and remote locations at the fair gounds to help pass info from sites to the chairman etc.

FCC Releases Report and Order in "Morse Code" Proceeding (Dec 19, 2006) -- The FCC has issued the complete Report and Order (R&O) in the "Morse code" proceeding, WT Docket 05-235. The R&O follows fast on the heels of the Commission's December 15 public notice announcing the elimination of the Morse code exam requirement for all Amateur Radio license classes. The R&O also addresses the ARRL's request to eliminate the disparity between "Tech Plus" licensees (Technicians with Element 1 Morse credit) and Technician licensees -- present and future -- who have not passed a Morse code test.

End of an Era: FCC to Drop Morse Testing for All Amateur License Classes (Dec 15, 2006 [REVISED Dec 15, 2006 23:33 ET]) -- NEWINGTON, CT, Dec 15, 2006 -- In an historic move, the FCC has acted to drop the Morse code requirement for all Amateur Radio license classes. The Commission today adopted, but hasn't yet released, the long-awaited Report and Order (R&O) in WT Docket 05-235, the "Morse code" proceeding. Also today, the FCC adopted an Order on Reconsideration in WT Docket 04-140 -- the "omnibus" proceeding -- modifying the Amateur Radio rules in response to an ARRL request to accommodate automatically controlled narrowband digital stations on 80 meters in the wake of rule changes that became effective today at 12:01 AM Eastern Time. The Commission said it will designate the 3585 to 3600 kHz frequency segment for such operations, although the segment will remain available for CW, RTTY and data as has been. In a break from what's been the usual practice in Amateur Radio proceedings, the FCC only issued a public notice at or about the close of business today and not the actual Report & Order, so some details -- including the effective dates of the two orders -- remain uncertain. Currently, Amateur Radio applicants for General and higher class licenses have to pass a 5 WPM Morse code test to operate on HF. Today's R&O will eliminate that requirement all around.

November Club Meeting
Club is working on a new repeater for the fielding area that will be connected to the other two existing repeaters.
Requests were made for what people would be interested in doing next year as a club. Several discussions took place including some interest in learning Morse code.

FCC Corrects J2D Error in "Omnibus" Report and Order
FCC Corrects J2D Error in "Omnibus" Report and Order (Nov 28, 2006) -- The FCC today released an Erratum that corrects one error in the recent Report and Order (R&O) in WT Docket 04-140 -- the so-called "omnibus" Amateur Radio proceeding -- that inadvertently limited J2D emissions to an occupied bandwidth of 500 Hz. J2D emissions are data sent by modulating an SSB transmitter. Had it been left to stand, the error would have rendered illegal below 30 MHz PACTOR III at full capability as well as Olivia and MT63 when operated at bandwidths greater than 500 Hz bandwidth, 1200 baud packet, Q15X25 and Clover 2000.
